Calling all future urban planners!
In this activity, students will put their knowledge of linear equations to use by designing a city on a coordinate plane. They will be tasked with creating linear equations representing the streets of their city and then graphing these streets on the plane. Students will also draw commercial and residential buildings in specific quadrants of their city.
This activity has endless opportunities for students to showcase their skills and creativity. Take it a step further by asking students to solve the various systems of equations created by the streets in their city. These exact points of intersection are the perfect locations to place stop signs. After all – safety is paramount in the real world! Incorporate geometry by engaging students in calculating the areas of their buildings. Bring math to life with this engaging learning experience!
